Stuff that happens when I leave the house

Author: theupstory

Once upon a time I wrote for a living. I thought I got paid by the word until I saw my benefits package and realized I'd struck gold. So 37 years later I wrote myself into retirement. Now I'm running wild and free across the literary Serengeti with no one to proof my copy and not an approval source in sight. Of course we all know you're supposed to write about what you know. I know about the human condition, stuff I can't believe just happened, dogs, road trips, the coordinates for all the Cold Stone Creameries, why Walmart looks more Village of the Damned than usual this morning, and so forth and so on. So I drive around, make observations, and write stuff. Yeah.

They say a picture is worth 1,000 words but I bet I can boost the word count if I add in my opinions. But first look at the picture. Letters from Mom: Stories about Cody and Holly

I kept copies of the letters I wrote and am putting together a book titled, “Stories About… Continue reading Letters from Mom: Stories about Cody and Holly

Water closet. Washroom. Loo. Lavatory. Privy. Powder room. Latrine. Outhouse. Whatever. If you’re lucky you’ll find… Continue reading The Exciting Bathroom Break!

Mother’s Day 2020

May 9, 2020 Posted in Mom Letters1 Comment

Once upon a time I was a full-time, boots-on-the-ground Mom. Mommy. Mama. Mother. I didn’t get to be a Mom right away. First there was school. Then there was work. Then there was a husband. By the time I got around to being a mom, I was in my late 30s. By the time I… Continue reading Mother’s Day 2020

In the kitchen with a non-cook

I don’t particularly like to cook, but I can. I need a good reason: A party needs appetizers. Someone is having a birthday. It’s Christmas and time to make The Fudge. Making food for events is so much more fun than making meals. Event cooking is a leisurely, solitary affair that involves the use of… Continue reading In the kitchen with a non-cook
